I made this skirt out of an old Gap shirt Scott was throwing away. It has a little pocket at the hip. I put four darts in the waist and added three buttons (spares that came with the shirt) to keep the front from gaping open. I like the shape of the hem - untouched from the original shirt. I consider this the best skirt I've made.
The t-shirt is also new and is my first perfect v-neck. This was a major accomplishment, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it right every time, but I have a pretty good system now.
I don't like these capri pants, so I didn't bother to show you the front. I did figure out how to make welt pockets and it's surprisingly fun to do.

If I wanted to make plus fours like these in this the Sartorialist photo, should I find a dress pant pattern and shorten it? Suggenstions?
Yes, I would do what you said. I would buy a pant pattern for the instructions, but you might want to cut up an old pair of pants that fit well for a pattern.
You'll have to gather the pant leg a little and attach a cuff. You might want to make a placket like what you see on a shirt cuff.
This skirt is wonderful--I think it merits an "instructibles" video or a readymade magazine feature. Can you imagine the run on perfectly fine men's shirts at thrift stores? A terrific idea and a great summer project.
Just a thought here, but somehow, could the sleeves be worked into a tie belt/sash? Ooh--and you could name this the SHKIRT! Claim that domain name right now and post your instructions!
