Graphic Floral Dress

I realized after a year of clipping pictures of dresses I covet out of fashion magazines, that most of them share this shape. It’s not an unusual shape, but none of the pattern companies I know of are selling this style right now, so I had to make my own pattern. It took a long time because I don’t officially know anything about pattern drafting, but I managed to work this out. This dress will look better with a belt. I’ve already sketched a bunch of color & detail variations that I plan to start on soon.

Keiler, that is so well-fit and classy, and as much as I hate the term but it is "flattering." I like the detail of the slight gather up at the side. I think I like that it truly looks thoughtful and well-considered which is what is lacking in most fashion.

awww, thanks Katrina. That's such a nice comment. I think we should all start using the word "fattering" for clothes that aren't flattering. I don't like the word flattering either, and it's because it implies that you need to look better than you do. When I was swim suit shopping the saleswoman kept trying to sell me "flattering" suits. I wanted to say - give me something harder to wear - I want a challenge.

Keiler, very cute dress. I'm also really loving how your hand-made clothes are becoming more unusual and distinctive...the shirt/skirt is great!

I think you should have said the comment to the saleswoman...I'm trying to imagine the reaction and all I can picture is a slack-jawed stare. I want to know what would REALLY happen.

I am now going to have to commission and skhirt dress. That is really a nifty design, and looks amazing on you. - Moose
