In the Studio

I'm making new little paintings for my new little studio.

They're each 5x7 inches, acrylic on panel.

I hung all my recent life drawings above my computer. I put one up from last year and I noticed that I accidentally dated it May 27, 2009. It makes me wonder what will happen on that day.

I just discovered your site a few days ago while I was Google searching for Sewing with Nancy's suitcase packing tips. The search hit your site and an hour later I was still browsing/reading through all your posts! I think you've inspired me to fire up my sewing machine after a 20 year respite. That's amazing! Thought you'd be very interested in Marcy Tilton's website. She designs a line of patterns for Vogue and has wonderfully innovative fabrics, surface treatments, designs, -- plus she's a bit of a philosopher like you!
http://www.marcytilton.com/ Hope it suits you!

I can't believe you were searching for Sewing with Nancy's suitcase packing tips. Where are you going?

I'm happy to hear I'm inspiring some sewing. Thanks for the the Marcy Tilton recommend. I always misread her name as March Tilton on the patterns. They're a little artsy for me to wear, but I like the look in general.

I'm going to VA on spring break with my family. Hoping it's warmer there. I'm kind of a geek about perfecting unimportant things like packing. I saw Nancy's program about it on TV and was hoping it would be on the web -- not.
I'm not the artsy type either, but Marcy's website is very cool. (Wait, aren't you an artist?) She does some neat stuff with exposing darts and seams. I like checking it out... not sure though that I would ever make anything like that. In fact, I'm pretty much about efficiency and no nonsense ... with a little novelty on the side.

I hope you have a nice trip. Now I realize that I don't know where you're travelling from.

Artists try to blend with their kind just as much as any other group. As long as they're all shopping at banana republic and their sister companies, so will I.

I like what M Tilton does with silkscreening and I also like the exposed darts & seams.

I live in the Milwaukee area -- almost a neighbor! Plus, my son has lived in Evanston since graduating from college 2 years ago. He started out living on Main St. so I know of the Vogue fabric store that you mentioned in 1 of your posts. Totally small world!

I'm most intrigued by Tilton's free form style of topstitching surface treatment. Really want to try that some time. I'm assuming that while it looks easy, it probably will take considerable practice to pull it off. She seems to be a master about fitting. That really shows in your finished projects as well.
