Bed, Bath, and Beyond

This one is dedicated to my friend Sharon. She encouraged me to make more versions of the original summer dress, but warned me not to make clothes out of bedding or curtains. I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist. This dress is made from an old sheet and pillowcase. As Scott pointed out, the pillowcase is slightly yellowed. He also thinks it looks like some kind of ethnic costume and needs an embroidered cummerbund (except he gestured towards his waist instead of using the word cummerbund.) The red sheet also shows visible wear, but I was careful to avoid all the really noticeable stains when I laid out the pattern pieces.

Love summer dress #2 and am hoping for multiples--it is such a charming frock! And did I really caution you not to make things out of bedding? That's unlike me--particularly if a pillowcase has hand embroidery! Are those creatures squirrels? Oh I hope they are!
I'm not necessarily a fan of the cumberbund, but if you could find some acorn printed fabric. I might be persuaded.
I do think, if you were inclined to take a folk dancing class, this dress would be appropriate. But just because you could wear it to clogging, doesn't mean that it is at all restricted or limited to such activities.
Love the color, love the dress, and if I said that about sewing with linens, I was wrong and stand corrected.
This is a perfect summer dress!

I think you meant that I should avoid using mattress pads when you cautioned me against using bedding as material.

Yes, they are squirrels. I'm looking forward to starting some animal emroidery projects of my own. You don't really see enough oppossums used decoratively.
