1. Cut a strip of bias fabric 1 1/2" wide and the same length as the garment edge.
2. Press the strip in half lengthwise.
3. Align the folded edge of the strip with the edge of the wrong side garment.
4. Stitch using a 5/8" seam allowance and a medium zig zag.
5. Trim the garment edge (only the top layer of fabric) close to the stitching line.

That's a really neat trick for edges; I'm going to have to give it a try. I'm a little intimidated by sewing knits, but after having seen some of the tops you've made I'm ready to give it another go!
I like how this looks, but I have one question...are you really aligning the folded edge of the strip or the raw edges of the strip? Thanks!
Yes, I'm really aligning the folded edge of the strip with the raw edge of the shirt. The strip is sewn to the wrong side of the garment. Then trim the shirt edge to the stitching line.

Okay, thanks for verifying! And for the technique. I'm still having trouble picturing it, but I'm thinking it's one of those things I'm going to have to actually do to get. I think I'll practice on a shirt for my toddler...
