I don’t actually have a garden, but this dress does seem like just the thing to wear for domestic projects. I used the same pattern, Simplicity 4116, for this and for the Happiness dress and neither of them look like the pattern. I bought it because I loved the collar and sleeves lined with small ruffles. It looks so sweet, like doll clothes. When it came down to making the dresses I couldn’t bring myself to put the collar or sleeves on either one because they’re just too cute, and while I love some cute things I know I would feel ridiculous wearing something like that. The more I thought about this the more I started to hate that picture on the pattern cover. The model looks like she’s at least thirty. If I met a woman my age wearing that dress I probably wouldn’t want to talk to her. I still have no idea what kind of look I’m trying to achieve, but I know I don’t want to produce something that will encourage people to ignore me.
I did preserve the ruffle at the hem but I made the dress shorter and the ruffle longer so it’s not as girly. It looks more like a tablecloth.

I think that dress looks spiffy as a gardening outfit. My garden-wear usually consists of whatever I went to bed in the night before, plus gloves and bugspray. Greg wants me to stay in the backyard gardens on those occasions.
I'm going to try more container gardening next year too - it's a great opportunity for height variation.
Oh - I want to guess about the bag. I think I've actually seen you use it, so I should have a good idea of the size capacity...how about 5 kohlrabis, 2 heads of swiss chard, a tub of creamed honey, a pound each of of green beans and yukon gold potatoes, and two huge cinnamon rolls? (can you tell I went to the farmer's market this morning?)
Hi Julie,
Again, some very good guessing about the grocery tote. My plan was to try out each person's idea and photograph it so everyone can see for themselves what fits. I don't know that anyone will want the bag after it has been stuffed with raw meat (see previous contest participant) and giant cinnamon rolls.
