Hourglass Outfit

Still on the topic of style advice – most of the helpful guides tell you to assess your body shape to determine whether you are hourglass, triangle, inverted triangle, or rectangle. Other terms for triangle are pear-shaped and big-on-bottom. Inverted triangle is sometimes called apple or big-on-top. Rectangle is also called skinny, no-waist, or boy-shaped. Hourglass really doesn’t search for alternatives since it is considered ideal. These four categories might be helpful, but there are so many variables within each range that probably have even more impact on the big picture. I think I’m closest to hourglass, with about twenty more minutes on my butt. I don’t consider myself a triangle because my shoulders are broad enough to balance my hips.

Now that I know what type I am closest to, I know that I should always wear things that show my waist and try to maintain top to bottom balance. I have found that little sleeves really help. This is much more flattering on me that a tank top. Ruffles and yokes are also recommended for people with little boobs, and I have to say I’m please with the result, although I really hate sewing ruffles. I used slightly oversized buttons for the blouse because I think this makes people look smaller in general.

Scott thinks the shorts are a little bit tight and that I “can’t gain a pound” if I want to keep wearing them. I’ve been able to stay within my two pound window so far, so I’m not worried. Besides, they’ll probably stretch out a little.

I definitely like this blouse on you - have you tried it in non-patterned fabric? Also, the "20 minutes past" comment was brilliant!

Hi Julie,

I haven't tried it in a solid yet, but I think it's a good idea. The ruffles do get lost a bit in the pattern.
