I’ve never suffered much from perfectionism. I’ve found that lowering your standards is a faster route to satisfaction than achievement. With this in mind I’m going to consider this dress adequate fulfillment of one of my July goals. I made a summer dress that I like. I used Simplicity pattern 3742 and a very lightweight cotton shirting that was given to me by Wendy Cooper (thanks Wendy!) I love the fabric. I finally feel like I made the right choice for the pattern. I’m finding that I like almost everything I’ve made that’s gray or dull blue and almost nothing else. It’s a relief to see some kind of predictability in taste forming.
Since the fabric was free and the pattern was only $1.99, this is probably the cheapest thing I’ve made. I did sew some elastic into the waist, but I bought a 144 yard roll for $10 so that only adds seven more cents. So, one can theoretically save a little money by sewing. Unfortunately I will have to buy a new serger to complete the second July goal – and that will cost a painful amount of money.

I love this dress. This is the one I'd make in lots of colors. Is it possible for it to have pockets? Are pockets a difficult addition? For my perfect dress/outfit/uniform, pockets would be a must--although I've been told time and again that pockets don't do one's hips any favors.
Then again, my hips haven't been doing me any favors lately either.
love what you've done with Edie's fabrics, Keiler. You look great in both these last pieces.
Thanks Wendy!
